If I Were Craving a Sweet Treat (And I Always Am)

For balance. For morale. Because YOLO.
Let it be known: I don’t love things that are too sweet, and I’m lactose intolerant. So if dairy shows up on this list, it’s because I risked it for the biscuit and/or had Lactaid in my purse like a responsible adult.
If I were craving something sweet this week, here’s where I’d go in or near Brunswick County:
Favorite Southport Sweet Treats
Fish Factory Restaurant and Bar
If they have crème brûlée, I’m ordering it. The pumpkin cheesecake also deserves a moment. It’s the kind of dessert you linger over. They have a pastry chef on staff and his name is Ben and we are grateful for Ben.
Spike’s Ice Cream
My family insists they have the best milkshakes around. I can’t personally confirm (see: lactose intolerance), but I can confirm they may have the best hot dog in town — which is usually what I order while everyone else dives into ice cream.

Southport Cookies
Classic chocolate chip. Slightly crisp edges, soft center. No notes.
Carolina Coastal Café
The lemon poppyseed blueberry muffin is incredible. Bright, fresh, not overly sweet — exactly my speed.
Lil Bitty Donut Co.
The move here is simple: try one of everything. Mini donuts mean no regrets. (That’s just math.)
Favorite Oak Island Sweet Treats
Salt 64
If they have the bread pudding, I’m in. Half for dessert, half for breakfast the next day — because growth.
OKI Scoop Shop
Donuts. I freaking love donuts. That’s it. That’s the review.
Favorite Holden Beach Sweet Treats

Saltwater Shanty
They have dairy-free options, which means I can indulge without consequences. We love a thoughtful menu.
Scoops
A classic beach stop. Summer in a cone
Favorite Wilmington Sweet Treats
Olivero
The cheesecake is insane. Truly. This is a “plan your day around it” kind of dessert.
Kilwins
Those waffle cones must be what heaven smells like. I usually go for something chocolate-covered — pretzels, fruit, whatever they’re dipping that day.
